STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE, CALCUTTA, Oct. 3,1995: |
POLLUTION CONTROL BOARDS ACTION AGAINST POLLUTING THE AIR BY USING COAL. RESTAURANT ASKED TO USE LPG AND NOT COAL IN CALCUTTA. COAL PRODUCES "MARBLE CANCER", ELECTRICITY AND WATER CONNECTIONS TO BE DISCONNECTED AGAINST ERRING HOTELS /RESTAURANTS
Highly placed sources say that the restaurant staff has been asked to use gas instead of coal as it has so far been doing. When asked how the restaurant has been allowed to do business, Mr. Pandey declined to comment.
POLLUTION CONTROL BOARD ACTS AGAINST 12 HOTELS FOR POLLUTING THE AIR AND WATER IN WEST BENGAL. MOST OF THE HOTELS SERVED NOTICES AGAINST AIR POLLUTION BY COAL.
The 12 hotels in Digha also top the list of the gross violators. These hotels were directed in March this year to comply with the statutory provision under Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. They were also asked to meet the standards within eight weeks. These hotels had been charged with polluting the sea and the town with unbridled discharge of liquid and solid waste.
NOTE:- It was found later that the hotels were certified by the Pollution Control Obligations. Constant enhailing CO2 by the cooks, spoil their lungs and in most cases deteriate their health.
